DESCRIPTION:Processes that happen randomly and infrequently\, but with dra
matic consequences\, are notoriously difficult to simulate. I will discuss
a method that we have developed\, known as Forward Flux Sampling\, for\ns
imulating these rare events in equilibrium or nonequilibrium systems. We h
ave applied this method to the flipping of the genetic switch that control
s the developmental transition from lysogeny to lysis in\nbacteriophage la
mbda. Our results lead to some general conclusions about stochastic modell
 ing of gene regulatory networks.\n
