DESCRIPTION:With Google recently achieving quantum supremacy\, quantum com
puters are posing a more significant threat to classical encryption. Altho
ugh it may be a while before quantum computers can break classical encrypt
ion\, we will discuss why it is important to consider this now. Quantum cr
yptography is the study of using quantum properties to perform cryptograph
ic tasks and is one way of providing quantum-safe encryption. This talk wi
ll present a walk-through of a popular quantum key distribution scheme: BB
84\, along with some alternative post-quantum cryptographic methods.
