studies can reveal the cryptic ecology of penguins. - Tom Hart\, Penguinol

DESCRIPTION:Macaroni penguins (Eudyptes chrysolophus Brant) feed when divi
ng during long foraging trips away from their breeding colony. They are co
nstrained by a number of factors including their\nphysiology\, their condi
tion\, the condition of their partner as well as the condition of their ch
ick. This talk summarizes newly discovered aspects of their foraging ecolo
gy in relation to prey availability.\n \nTime Depth Recorders and other ar
chival tags are increasing in their capacity\, battery life and\ndurabilit
y at the same time as getting cheaper and smaller. However\, development a
nd application of techniques to analyse these data sets lags behind our ab
ility to collect them. This talk presents a summary of what we have achiev
ed in the last year and work we have planned for the next two years.
