DESCRIPTION:Colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals combine many of the desir
 able properties of homogeneous photocatalysts with those of heterogeneous 
 photocatalysts to access new reactivities and selectivities that impact or
 ganic synthesis and solar energy conversion. This talk examines the use of
  nanocrystals in an important photochemical reaction\, [2+2] photocycloadd
 ition to produce previously inaccessible cyclobutane structures from a var
 iety of alkenes\, and in multi-electron reduction reactions\, most notably
  the conversion of CO2 to CO in pure water with record-breaking efficiency
 .
