SUMMARY:Formation and evolution of galaxies across the cosmic epochs - Pro
 fessor Roberto Maiolino
DTSTART:20201201T193000Z
DTEND:20201201T210000Z

DESCRIPTION:Galaxies are fascinating systems in which stars form and evolv
e\, and which are also subject to dramatic events such as the violent expu
lsion of matter by supermassive black holes and collisions with other gal
axies. The lecture will give an overview of our current understanding of t
he early phases of galaxy formation in the primeval Universe and of the pr
ocesses that have transformed galaxies across the cosmic epochs\, resultin
g into the population of galaxies and galaxy clusters observed in the loca
l Universe. The lecture will also give an overview of some of the major te
lescopes and facilities that are being used to make progress in this field
 .
