DESCRIPTION:Supernovae - the explosions of stars - play a variety of roles
in the\nworkings of the Universe. Some of them are also used as tools for
  other\nexperiments in astrophysics. Type Ia supernovae\, specifically\, a
re used to\nmeasure distances to faraway galaxies and\, in turn\, constrai
n cosmology.\nHowever\, we still do not know exactly what types of star sy
stems explode as\nthese supernovae or how the explosions take place. In my
talk\, I will show\nhow *Hubble Space Telescope *observations of Type Ia
supernovae years after\ntheir explosion shed new light on the physics of t
 heir explosions.
