DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first in a new series of workshops exploring t
echnologies at the interface of biology\, engineering\, academia and indus
try. This series will provide practical advice on how to make the most of
the latest biological technologies\, and how research can be applied in co
 mmercial and non-profit environments.\n\n---------------------------------
 -----------\n\nOpen Tools for Bioproduction\n\nDr Jenny Molloy\n\nJenny is
the Founder and Director of the "Open Bioeconomy Lab":https://openbioecon
omy.org/. She is also a Shuttleworth Foundation Research Fellow in the "De
partment of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology":https://www.ceb.cam.ac
.uk/staff/dr-jenny-molloy at the University of Cambridge\, studying the ro
le and impact of open approaches to Intellectual Property for a Sustainabl
e and Equitable Bioeconomy. Her work focuses on better understanding probl
ems facing researchers accessing biological research tools in low-resource
contexts\, particularly Latin America and Africa. Jenny has been analyzin
g existing innovative solutions and the potential for local\, distributed
manufacturing of enzymes to improve access and build capacity for biologic
al research. The broader aim of her research is to contextualize “open s
ource” approaches to biotechnology within current narratives of innovati
on and the bioeconomy policy agenda.\n\nDr Jim Ajioka\n\nJim has had a lif
e-long passion for the environment\, with a PhD in Ecology and Evolution.
 At the "University of Cambridge":https://www.path.cam.ac.uk/directory/jame
s-ajioka\, Jim’s background in building tools for molecular genome analy
sis led to early adoption of synthetic biology methods aimed at the constr
uction of a biosensor as a sustainable method to assess arsenic contaminat
ion of drinking water in Nepal and Bangladesh. Jim is now a founder and Ch
ief Science Officer for "Colorifix":https://colorifix.com/\, a synthetic b
iology startup using biological processes to produce\, deposit and fix pig
 ments onto textiles.\n\n--------------------------------------------\n\nJo

--------\n\nThe SynBio IRC is pleased to announce a new series of workshop
s providing practical advice for researchers interested in exploring the l
atest biological technologies. The workshops will explore how novel techno
logies can be used to drive research with real-world applications. Session
s will look at both the development of technology and it's transfer into t
he public realm via both commericialisation and non-profit companies and i
nitiatives.\n\nThe workshops will feature speakers from academia\, industr
y and the non-profit sector\, giving insite into the whole lifecycle of ap
plication-driven technologies\, from ideas and develeopment to being used
by consumers. The sessions will showcase different methods used to deliver
  research outcomes\, including spin-outs\, non-profit companies and open-a
ccess projects\n\nWorkshops will be held monthly\, Tuesday 3-4:30pm\n\n29t
