fessor ( BP Institute for Multiphase Flow\, University of Cambridge)

DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, Prof. Andy Woods will present some of the resea
rch into the design of low energy buildings which is being carried out at
the BP institute in the\nuniversity\, focussing on the use of natural vent
ilation and thermal mass to reduce the energy consumption for heating\, co
oling and ventilating buildings. Examples of modern low energy buildings w
ill be presented and\ndiscussed in terms of the principles of air and heat
flow through the building.\n\nProf. Andy Woods read Mathematics at St. Jo
hns College Cambridge\, before\ncompleting his PhD at the Department of Ap
plied Mathematics and\nTheoretical Physics. Having become the Chair in App
lied Mathematics at the\nUniversity of Bristol in 1996\, Prof. Woods retur
ned to Cambridge in 2000 to\nbecome the head of the BP Institute\, where h
e works in a wide range of\nareas\, including geothermal systems\, the dyn
amics of volcanic systems and\nthe use of natural ventilation to improve t
he energy efficiency of\nbuildings.\n\n\nTo register for free\, please go
