DESCRIPTION:G-quadruplexes are stable four-stranded guanine-rich structure
s which can form\nfrom DNA and RNA.\nThey are an important component of hu
man telomeres and play a role in the\nregulation of transcription and tran
slation.\nThe biological significance of a G-quadruplex is crucially linke
 d with their\nthermodynamic stability. \nHence the prediction of G-quadrup
lex stability is of vital interest.\nWe present a novel Bayesian predictio
n framework based\non Gaussian process regression to determine the thermod
ynamic stability of\npreviously unmeasured G-quadruplex forming sequences
\nfrom the sequence information alone. \nWe benchmark our approach on a la
rge G-quadruplex dataset and compare our\nmethod to standard approaches. \
nFurthermore we propose an active learning procedure which can be used\nto
iteratively acquire data in an optimal fashion.\nLastly\, we demonstrate
the utility of our procedure on a genome-wide study of\nquadruplexes in th
 e human genome.\n
