DESCRIPTION:Why do we wear armour?  Armour is designed to protect against 
 specific threats for Police\, Security and Military applications. How armo
 ur works to protect the body from these different threats such as ballisti
 c and knife and spike attack will be discussed. The materials properties a
 nd effectiveness of fibre types\, Textile armour\, Composite and Hard Armo
 urs will be introduced and compared.  Current Standards for evaluating arm
 our will also be briefly covered.  The ergonomic penalties of wearing armo
 ur will be introduced as although protection is the primary goal ergonomic
 s are important and a challenge for researchers.
