DESCRIPTION:The construction of local Arthur packets is a key ingredient i
 n understanding the decomposition of the automorphic discrete spectrum. In
  the archimedean case Adams\, Barbasch and Vogan constructed local Arthur 
 packets using an invariant coming from D-modules called the singular suppo
 rt. In the p-adic setting the singular support is not available and so the
  wavefront set - an invariant closely related to the singular support - is
  expected to play an important role. In this talk I will present new resul
 ts on the wavefront set and some implications on the construction of local
  Arthur packets in the p-adic case. The results are based on joint work wi
 th Dan Ciubotaru and Lucas Mason-Brown.\n\n
