DESCRIPTION:Many predictions have been made about how heat transport in Ra
yleigh&ndash\;B&eacute\;nard convection and related convection models scal
es with the Rayleigh and Prandtl numbers. Only some of these predictions a
re mathematically precise statements about asymptotic scaling\, and in mos
t cases the correctness of each asymptotic prediction remains an open ques
tion. I will pose some questions and conjectures about asymptotic scaling\
, both for turbulent convection and other (possibly unstable) states. I wi
ll survey some mathematical bounds on scalings as well as experimental and
computational evidence\, and I will present recent computations of two ty
pes: turbulent DNS\, and unstable steady states.
