DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, I will cover some of the key geometric aspects
of geophysical turbulence that underpins both our pragmatic approaches (in
parameterizing and developing subgrid schemes) and our diagnostic approac
hes (using advected passive tracers to better understand these actions of
 turbulence).&nbsp\; I will highlight the different scales\, energization\,
and symmetries of mesoscale (10-100km)\, submesoscale baroclinic (1-10km)
\, submesoscale symmetric (10m-1km)\, and boundary layer instabilities and
how these confer aspects to the turbulent transport by the finite amplitu
de consequences of these instabilities.&nbsp\; I will discuss some of the
diagnostic challenges associated with modeling and observing these heterog
 eneous\, nonstationary\, and anisotropic phenomena.
