DESCRIPTION:Authors: Sergei Chernyshenko and Yunjiu Yang (Imperial College
)\nThe idea that the near-wall turbulence quasi-steadily adjusts itself to
the large-scale component of the wall friction\, if formulated in a mathe
matically rigorous form\, allows nontrivial quantitative predictions. Howe
ver\, the actual modulation effect is only approximately quasi steady. Thi
s talk will describe the current state of the theory\, and then focus on t
he limits of its applicability. A brief review of the theory will be given
. Applications to all three velocity components will be considered\, and c
omparisons with direct numerical calculations and experiments will be made
 .
