DESCRIPTION:I am going to talk about Harris-type theorems and how to use t
 hem for studying the long-time behaviour of kinetic equations. These are c
 ertain probabilistic methods in the ergodic theory of Markov processes and
  they provide efficient and quantitative results once their hypotheses are
  verified quantitatively. These methods do not require any prior informati
 on about the equilibrium states\, thus they are very convenient for kineti
 c equations arising in applied sciences. Moreover\, it is possible to obta
 in existence results on systems which exhibit nonequilibrium steady states
 . I will discuss some examples and provide an overview.\n&nbsp\;
