DESCRIPTION:Many models in plasma physics can be derived from a non canoni
cal hamiltonian formulation expressed using a Poisson bracket and a conser
ved Hamiltonian. For long time simulations\, conservation of invariants com
ing from the hamiltonian formulation are essential. This can be achieved i
n particular by looking for a discrete Poisson bracket and Hamiltonian and
then using splitting of either the bracket or the hamiltonian. As examples
we will consider the Vlasov-Maxwell equations as well as hybrid fluid-kin
etic models. We shall also show how dissipative effects can be added using
a symmetric positive non definite bracket and a dissipated entropy.
