DESCRIPTION:This talk will review a number of recent studies of user behav
 iour in security\, and discuss how well they explain user behaviour in int
 eraction with security mechanisms.  There has been a focus on user interfa
 ces\, and improving users's understanding of security\, to help them make 
 "the right decision" from a security perspective.\n\nI will argue that\, t
 o successfully influence user behaviour\, we need to\n  develop a broader 
 perspective of user behaviour in security\, and how to influence it.  Peop
 le's behaviour is goal-oriented and influenced by values and behavioural n
 orms\, and their perception of risk vs. cost of compliance.  The talk will
  conclude with examples how application of this broader perspective can be
  applied to improve security design and communication with users.\n\n
