DESCRIPTION:Originally motivated by the McKay Conjecture\, over the last f
 ew years I have been interested in studying the restriction of irreducible
  characters of finite groups to Sylow subgroups. In this talk I will menti
 on how this topic played a central role in the proof of a conjecture formu
 lated by Malle and Navarro in 2012. This result is contained in a very rec
 ent joint work with Stacey Law\, Jason Long and Carolina Vallejo. In the s
 econd part of the talk I will focus on symmetric groups. In particular\, I
  will describe some new results concerning restriction of characters to Sy
 low subgroups in this context. This part of the talk is based on joint wor
 k with Giada Volpato.&nbsp\;
