DESCRIPTION:Increasing computational power of todays supercomputers allow 
 global ocean models to advance into unprecedented resolutions. We introduc
 e a structure-preserving numerical approach that aims to encompass all oce
 anic scales. First very high-resolution simulations of the global ocean ar
 e shown that reveal a new class of phenomena located&nbsp\;in between geos
 trophic turbulence and isotropic turbulence. These phenomena demand physic
 al and mathematical understanding.&nbsp\;
