DESCRIPTION:Let G be a simple group over a non-archimedean local field. Al
 though all non-trivial\, irreducible\, smooth\, representations&nbsp\;are 
 countably dimensional\, there are several ways of measuring their "size". 
 &nbsp\;I will review these definitions\, and then concentrate on small rep
 resentations\, in particular\, the problem of their existence and construc
 tion. The minimal repesentation\, that is\, the smallest non-trivial repre
 sentation is of particular interest. It is a generalization of the Weil (o
 r oscillator) representation of the metaplectic group\, and gives rise to 
 several interesting theta correspondences problems. &nbsp\;
