DESCRIPTION:In his famous 1970 paper on the Picard functor\, Raynaud descr
 ibed the relationship between the N&eacute\;ron model of the Jacobian of a
  curve over a discrete valuation ring\, and the regular model of the curve
 . We give an extension of these results to generalized Jacobians\, with ap
 plications to modular curves. This is joint work with Bruce Jordan and Ken
  Ribet.
