cs and geometry - Professor Thomas Lecuit\, Group leader at IBDM and Turin
g Center for living systems\, Marseille. Professor at Collège de France\,
  Paris

CONTACT:Scientific Meetings Co-ordinator
DESCRIPTION:\nIt has long been argued that genes encode shape though how t
hey might do so remains largely not understood. Exploring the dynamical fe
atures and mechanisms of tissue shape changes and tissue growth in Drosoph
ila this talk will develop the notion that information rests on three pill
ars: genetics/biochemical activity\, mechanics and geometry. I will contra
st and seek to integrate two general modalities of information flow drivin
g morphogenesis: inherited information executing a deterministic program a
nd information resulting from non-equilibrium self-organisation across sca
les.\nI will illustrate this in the context of tissue flow in embryos and
tissue doming in the developing wing. The talk will emphasize the importan
ce of geometry during tissue morphogenesis.
