DESCRIPTION:The talk will focus on the coupled motion of the sloshing of l
iquid in a tank and the vibration of its elastic cover\, such as a membran
e or ice/plate cover. In particular\, the circular cylindrical and cubic t
anks have been considered. Semi-analytical schemes have been developed for
solving the Laplace equation with boundary conditions with high order der
ivatives\, which has posed a major challenge to the problem. Equations for
the natural frequencies of the coupling system are obtained. Detailed inv
estigation of the corresponding natural mode shapes and principal strains
of the cover has been undertaken\, which provides insight into the physic
features in the coupled motion. The obtained results can be used for the a
pplications of seiches in cold regions\, and tuned liquid dampers (TLD) in
  civil and marine engineering.
