DESCRIPTION:Since the surprising discovery of high temperature superconduc
tivity\nin the iron pnictides in 2008\, a large body of physical propertie
s have \nalready been accumulated. These properties provide the basis for\
nconsiderations on the microscopic physics of these copper-free systems.\n
\nBased on the fact that they are "bad metals"\, I will make the case that
\nthese systems are at the boundary between itinerancy and interaction-ind
uced\nlocalization\; in other words\, they are metals close to a Mott tran
sition.\nI will show how such a picture naturally leads to magnetic frustr
ation\nin the form of J1-J2 superexchange interactions on the iron square
lattice.\nFinally\, I will describe the implications of the resulting micr
oscopic model for \nthe existing experiments on magnetic structure and dyn
amics\, for prospective\nmagnetic quantum criticality\, and for supercondu
 ctivity.\n
