DESCRIPTION:This talk is intended to be an introduction to the subject mat
 ter of wave multiple scattering\, emergence of effective medium and the de
 rivation of the relevant basic equations. By approaching the condition of 
 effective medium from the point of view of the ensemble-averaged Green fun
 ction\, it is shown that a numerical approach to the intermediate frequenc
 y regime is possible. The latter is illustrated by an example with both th
 eory and experimental results on an acoustically strongly scattering mediu
 m. The talk ends with a physical interpretation of the results.\nThe mater
