DESCRIPTION:The fundamental equations of electromagnetism involve two fiel
ds (E and B) that are coupled through one constitutive parameter for appli
cation to linear isotropic chiral materials. Involving just one field (i.e
.\, displacement)\, the fundamental equations of linear elasticity are ina
dequate for the same application. Not only must a new field (i.e.\, micror
otation) be invoked but it must also be coupled to displacement using four
constitutive parameters. Therefore\, electromagnetic and elastodynamic (i
.e.\, Cosserat) descriptions of linear isotropic chiral materials are not
simple cognates and produce different phenomenons.
