DESCRIPTION:IN PLACE OF THE WEDNESDAY SEMINAR\n\nOn Wednesday 15 February 
 we're hosting a special event to remember Dr Alexander 'Sandy' Fraser (htt
 ps://www.cst.cam.ac.uk/news/sandy-fraser-memorial-his-achievements)\, who 
 died last June. Friends and former colleagues of his will be celebrating t
 he legacy of a computer science pioneer whose work was fundamental to the 
 development of the internet we use today.\n\nSandy was an alumnus of this 
 Department\, completing his PhD here in 1969. He then moved on to AT&T Bel
 l Labs and is perhaps best known as a pioneer of Virtual Circuit technolog
 ies – the kind of networks that would later be known as ATM (Asynchronou
 s Transfer Mode) – in which field he won many awards.\n\nThe memorial ev
 ent takes place in the Department on 15 February\, 16:00–18:00. There wi
 ll be a series of short talks on aspects of Sandy's life and work\, follow
