 ar entitled ‘Learning to teach controversial topics in school science ed
 ucation'.\n\nA light sandwich lunch will be provided from 12:30 in the Hea
 ley Room\, Westminster College\, Cambridge.\n\nhttps://faradayinstitute.on
 line/Reiss\n\nAbstract\n\nTopics in school may be controversial because th
 e basic science is uncertain\, but usually they are controversial for othe
 r reasons\, in particular if there are conflicting values\, opinions or in
 terests. There are different ways of teaching controversial issues in scie
 nce classrooms and each has advantages and disadvantages\, which I will di
 scuss. I will then concentrate on the topics of evolution\, climate change
  and vaccines\, each of which has elements of controversy.
