SUMMARY:Dynamic Green’s functions & gyroscopic motion in structured flex
ural systems - Daniel Colquitt (University of Liverpool)

DESCRIPTION:We will discuss the dynamic behaviour of both discrete and con
tinuous flexural systems incorporating gyroscopic resonators. The canonica
l object of study is the Green&rsquo\;s function\, from which information
regarding the dynamic response of the system under point loading by forces
and moments can be obtained. A range of novel effects will be discussed\,
including extreme dynamic anisotropy\, asymmetric wave propagation\, wave
-guiding\, filtering and the ability to create localised defect modes\, al
l without the need for additional resonant elements or interfaces. We will
also discuss a new class of elastic waveforms\, referred to as &ldquo\;ch
iral flexural waves&rdquo\;\, in an elastic plate connected to a system of
elastic flexural rods with gyroscopic spinners.&nbsp\;Such waves support
the propagation of one-way interfacial waves without the need for breaking
time-reversal symmetry.\nThis talk is based on joint work with KH Madine\
 , G Carta\, NV\, Movchan\, AB Movchan\, and IS Jones.
