DESCRIPTION:We present novel results on the vibrations of the elastic stru
ctures composed of resonators and finite phononic crystals (PnCs) called m
eta-atoms. The normal modes associated to these structures get trapped ins
ide the resonators and decay evanescently through the PnCs when the normal
-mode frequencies of the resonator fall within the bandgap of the PnCs. Th
e trapped vibrations\, called atomic elastic meta-orbitals\, mimic the qua
ntum-mechanical p_z orbitals. By coupling two or more meta-atoms\, artific
ial elastic molecules are built and the molecular elastic meta-orbitals em
erge. Applications to aromatic and linear molecules are presented. Topolog
ical states\, appearing in artificial elastic polymers\, also emerge in th
 e coupled-resonator elastic structures.
