DESCRIPTION:The Morava stabilizer group and its action on the Lubin-Tate s
pectrum arise from the study of deformations of formal groups\, and play a
central role in chromatic homotopy theory. In this talk\, we will explore
a deformation problem of a different nature. Specifically\, we will be de
forming some natural residual representations of the Morava stabilizer gro
up\, analogous to the number-theoretic study of deformations of Galois rep
resentations due to Mazur and its derived version due to Galatius and Venk
atesh. We will observe an interesting duality and ponder its meaning and i
mplications. This is a report on work in progress joint with Robert Dicks.
