DESCRIPTION:Kadison&rsquo\;s problem (1967) asked the following question "
if N is a subfactor of the factor M for which N' \\cap M consists of scala
rs\, will some maximal abelian *-subalgebra of N be a maximal abelian suba
lgebra of M?". In 1981\, this problem has been solved affirmatively by Pop
a when N is of type II and sits with expectation inside M. In this talk\,
we present a solution to Kadison's question when N is a type III_\\lambda
 factor with 0 \\leq \\lambda <1 or a type III1 factor that satisfies Conne
 s's bicentralizer conjecture.
