DESCRIPTION:Perception&mdash\;the acquisition and interpretation of inform
 ation through sensory mechanisms&mdash\;is critical to how animals interac
 t with and respond to their worlds. From a mathematical perspective\, perc
 eption is both interesting and challenging because it is fundamentally non
 -local in character.&nbsp\;&nbsp\; From an empirical perspective\, animal
 tracking data is providing unprecedented opportunities for investigating t
 he linkages among perception\, behavior\, and ecology over large spatial s
 cales.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;\nI will share results from theoretical and empirical
 investigations of perception\, focusing on context-dependent changes in be
 havior. Along the way\, I will touch on the evolution of perception\, the
 importance of perception for successful foraging\, and the ways in which p
 erception can shape ecological interactions.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;
