 talk\nIn the age of big administrative datasets\, including those from int
 ervention trials\, there is still an argument for more detailed patient-le
 vel data from community-based cohorts. One such cohort is that from the Fr
 emantle Diabetes Study which was started 30 years ago and which has genera
 ted a wealth of data relating to diabetes management\, complications and c
 ost in a representative urban Australian setting.\n\nAbout Professor Davis
 \nTimothy Davis is Professor of Medicine and a Consultant Endocrinologist 
 and General Physician in Perth\, Western Australia (WA). He graduated in m
 edicine from the University of WA\, obtained a DPhil from Oxford Universit
 y\, and completed his physician training in the UK before taking up a post
 doctoral position in Oxford University’s Tropical Research Unit in Bangk
 ok. From there he took up his current academic and clinical appointments i
 n Perth. He is an International Advisor to the Royal College of Physicians
  in London and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sc
 iences.
