DESCRIPTION:Quantum channels are the most general input-output transformat
ions allowed by quantum mechanics. Physically they play a crucial role in
Quantum Information Theory\, where they represent the communication from a
sender to a receiver. In this talk\, I will discuss some generic properti
es of a quantum channel related to its spectral behaviour. This would incl
ude understanding the structure of a specific class of eigen-operators of
a unital channel. As applications\, I will show how these properties lead
to partial solutions to two currently open problems in Quantum Information
Theory\, namely the PPT-squared conjecture and the optimal upper bound fo
r the quantum Wielandt inequality for a primitive channel. No prior knowle
dge of quantum theory will be assumed.
