DESCRIPTION:The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre and the Department of
Radiology at Addenbrooke's are pleased to announce a seminar series on Art
ificial Intelligence (AI) in Medicine\, which aims to provide a comprehens
ive overview of the latest developments in this rapidly evolving field. As
AI continues to revolutionize healthcare\, we believe it is essential to
explore its potential and discuss the challenges and opportunities it pres
ents. \n\nThe seminar series will feature prominent experts in the field w
ho will share their research and insights on a range of topics\, including
AI applications in disease diagnosis\, drug discovery\, and patient care.
Each seminar will also include a Q&A session to facilitate discussion and
exchange of ideas among participants. \n\n*The next seminar will be held
on the 24th of October 2023\, 11am at the School of Clinical Medicine (Sem
inar Room 10)\, University of Cambridge and will feature:* \n\n*Title: "Sc
anXm - A new software tool for the visualization\, annotation\, and segmen
tation of biomedical images." – Dr. Tristan Whitmarsh\, Institute of Ast
 ronomy\, University of Cambridge*\n \nWith a master’s degree in computer
graphics\, Tristan made a switch to the field of Medical Image Analysis w
hile working towards a PhD degree\, which he was awarded in 2012. He subse
quently joined the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridg
e as a postdoctoral researcher under the supervision of Prof. Graham Treec
 e. He was awarded a University of Cambridge/Wellcome Trust Junior Interdis
ciplinary Fellowship at the Department of Medicine in 2015\, a Canon Found
ation Fellowship at NAIST in 2016\, and an Oxford Biodesign fellowship in
the following year. He subsequently joined the group of Prof. Florian Mark
owetz at Cancer Research UK to work on convolutional neural networks for t
he automatic segmentation of the tumor vasculature microenvironment. Trist
an is currently at the Institute of Astronomy working on the IMAXT project
of Cancer Research UK led by Dr. Nicholas Walton. \n\nScanXm is a newly
released software tool developed by Tristan Whitmarsh at the University of
Cambridge. It aims to provide a simple and user-friendly interface for th
e annotation of 2D and 3D medical and biomedical images. ScanXm also inclu
des several deep learning modules for image processing and the automatic s
egmentation of various organs and tissue types. Notably\, this software re
quires no Python coding\, will run without an expensive GPU\, and does not
use cloud computing\, thus keeping your confidential patient data safe. T
hrough a recent collaboration with NVIDIA\, ScanXm now seamlessly integrat
es with MONAI Label. This integration enables ScanXm to run powerful AI mo
dels such as vision transformers\, both locally and on a cloud platform. A
dditionally\, it grants access to all publicly released AI models in the M
ONAI Model Zoo. In this talk\, Tristan will provide an overview of all the
features in ScanXm\, as well as providing a live demonstration. \n\nEach
session will involve two talks\, followed by an interactive discussion wit
h coffee and pastries! We hope that this seminar series will be a valuable
platform for researchers\, practitioners\, and students to learn about th
e latest trends and explore collaborations in the exciting field of AI in
Medicine. \n\nThis is a *hybrid event* so you can also join via Zoom: \n\n
