DESCRIPTION:It is widely believed that the human mind and the vast arrays
of equations underlying modern AI have little in common. I challenge this
notion by demonstrating that large language models (LLMs) exhibit unexpect
ed emergent properties that parallel aspects of human cognition. Essential
ly\, LLMs may not merely model the language but also the mental processes
that generate it. I will discuss LLMs' performance on tasks typically used
to study mental processes in humans and explore several possible interpre
tations of these findings.\n\nThis talk is online only. https://teams.micr
