DESCRIPTION:Although a large majority of the global population is connecte
d to the Internet\, this is not the case for the Global South\, where less
than 25% of people have access. In this talk\, I will present some of the
fundamental challenges we have addressed during several years of work in
Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D). I will
discuss our research on Spectrum Scarcity\, Resource Sharing\, and Inform
ation Availability as key enablers of Internet connectivity in underserved
areas.	\n\nAndres is a former Senior Research Associate at the Department
of Computer Science and Technology\, University of Cambridge. He has also
been affiliated with the University of Los Andes - Mérida\, Venezuela\,
lecturing and participating in academic initiatives in various Latin Ameri
 can countries including Colombia\, Ecuador\, Haiti\, Guatemala\, and Argen
tina.\n \nBased in various research institutions and universities in Europ
e and Latin America\, Andrés has worked on one of the fundamental problem
s of the future internet: how it can be scaled to the vast\, underserved a
reas where two-thirds of the world’s population lives through the develo
pment of sustainable and low-cost solutions."
