ectron Scattering - Ce Zhang (University of Liverpool)

DESCRIPTION:The latest measurement of the muon g-2 announced at Fermilab e
xhibits a large discrepancy from the currently accepted Standard Model pre
diction. The primary source of uncertainty on the theoretical value is rep
resented by the leading order hadronic contribution (a_HLO)\, traditionall
y determined through a data-driven dispersive approach. An independent cro
sscheck of a_HLO is essential to understand this tension and consolidate t
he theoretical prediction.\n\n \n\nThe MUonE experiment proposes a novel a
pproach to determine a_HLO by measuring the running of the electromagnetic
coupling constant via muon-electron elastic scattering in the space-like
region. The measurement will be performed using a 160 GeV muon beam at CER
 N. The experimental principle\, hardware and software developments and the
status of the test runs will be introduced in this talk.
