DESCRIPTION:Pancreatic cancer is highly metastatic\, with a 5-year surviva
l rate of less than 10%. Tumours are hallmarked by accumulation of highly
fibrotic extracellular matrix\, which correlates with poor prognosis and s
pread to organs such as liver\, lung and peritoneal cavity. Our aim is to
understand the molecular connections between force sensing and aggressiven
ess of tumour cells. We recently discovered a connection between mechanose
nsing\, invasive migration and metabolic supply/demand in pancreatic cance
r cells. I will discuss our model for how cells align their cytoskeletal p
olarity with their metabolic machinery to meet the high demands of the can
cer microenvironment. If we can better model and understand this alignment
\, we can hope to find new ways to target the aggressiveness and spread of
  pancreatic cancer.
