DESCRIPTION:Active matter systems - such as a suspension of microorganisms
or synthetic microswimmers - dissipate energy and maintain exciting colle
ctive dynamics. This talk will discuss three distinct experimental colloid
al systems. The first part of the talk will be about the emergence of rigi
dity from phoretic self-interactions in an active polymer. Then\, I will e
xplain the experimental observed morphologies of electric-field-driven cra
cks in dried dispersions of ellipsoids. Finally\, I will talk about a meth
od to trap microparticles outside a laser beam using phoretic and hydrodyn
 amic interactions.
