SUMMARY:Dynamical decoupling of open quantum systems - Robin Hillier (Lanc
 aster University)

DESCRIPTION:The talk provides an introduction to dynamical decoupling\, an
error mitigation procedure in quantum information theory that aims to sta
bilise open quantum systems undergoing decoherence. We look at some of the
mathematical challenges\, provide conditions as to when and how dynamical
decoupling does or does not work in given quantum systems\, what the resu
lting dynamics looks like and how close the idealised mathematical descrip
tion is to physical reality. The talk is based on a series of joint papers
  with C. Arenz\, D. Burgarth\, P. Facchi and/or M. Fraas.
