DESCRIPTION:On Thursday 4th February\, Dr Jag Srai will give a presentatio
n on Configuring international supply chains: an integrated operations per
spective - findings from research and practice.\nBusinesses have long reco
gnized the importance of an effective supply chain\, one that integrates s
uppliers\, enables efficient production and is able to service customers i
n a timely cost effective manner. The design of the supply network\, linki
ng suppliers\, producers\, distributors with their customers has evolved o
ver the last 25 years from a basic process integration activity\, to one o
f a complex network design task. Globalization\, new routes to market and
rapid technology change have resulted in changing industry structures\, of
ten involving a fragmentation of the traditional supply chain. In his talk
\, Dr Jag Srai reviews some of the exemplar models identified in our recen
t research projects within the Centre for International Manufacturing\, an
d how the ‘configuration perspective’ applied across different aspects
of the manufacturing value chain can support firms to design radical alte
rnatives to innovation and market supply.\n\nPresentation at 17.30 - 18.30
 . Refreshments from 17.00 hrs.
