DESCRIPTION:Opportunities of functional oxides for applications in electro
nics are huge. However\, oxides in electronics are quite scarce. The chall
enges stem from both intrinsic and extrinsic materials problems. Also\, cu
rrent thin film deposition routes cannot always deliver the performance of
bulk materials. This talk looks at some of the reasons for the aforementi
oned challenges\, and shows different ways\, drawing upon a range of disci
plines\, to overcome them. Examples will be given showing how to achieve t
ranslation of this interdisciplinary basic science to application.\n\nSpec
ial careers session with Prof. Judith Driscoll!\n\nJudith Driscoll is Prof
essor of Materials Science in Cambridge and Royal Academy of Engineering C
hair in Emerging Materials\, founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal\, APL
Materials\, from the American Institute of Physics\, and Fellow of severa
l prestigious research institutions and societies. She runs a highly colla
borative research group\, and she co-leads a highly successful 'Femincam'
meeting that aims to celebrate emerging women in science and leaders in el
ectronic materials. \n\nIn this discussion\, Judith will share perspective
s and insights from her career journey so far\, and will engage in an open
Q&A session hosted by Dr Alice Merryweather. The session is aimed at STEM
early careers researchers from all backgrounds.\n\n
