DESCRIPTION:Whiteside&rsquo\;s edition of The Mathematical Papers of Isaac
  Newton (1967&ndash\;81) ranks among the most significant contributions to
  the history of mathematics in the last century. This presentation will be
 gin by highlighting the significance of Whiteside's accomplishment. Whites
 ide was able to reconstruct Newton's mathematical archive\, which is fragm
 ented and difficult to date. Subsequently\, I will examine some shortcomin
 gs in Whiteside's edition. The awareness of these shortcomings is a conseq
 uence of the substantial shifts in perspective that have taken place withi
 n the field of the history of mathematics. It is hoped that in the future\
 , further research will be conducted in order to address the aforementione
 d open issues.
