DESCRIPTION:Gedrich and Gruenberg introduced two homological invariants fo
 r a ring $R$\, the supremum of the injective lengths of the projectives\, 
 silp R\, and the supremum of the projective lengths of the injectives\, sp
 li R. For a suitable commutative ring $R$ and group $G$\, they showed if s
 pli RG is finite\, then silp RG is also finite. I will discuss ongoing res
 earch that aims to extend these and related results for totally disconnect
 ed locally compact groups through rational discrete cohomology.
