DESCRIPTION:The classical McKay correspondence is an observation relating
properties of finite subgroups G of SL(C^2^) to the minimal (crepant) reso
lutions of the singularities C^2^/G. From a modern perspective this is obt
ained from a derived equivalence between the minimal resolution and the or
bifold C^2^/G. We will provide an introduction to the McKay correspondence
and GIT. Finally we will discuss an unresolved question recently posed b
y Abdelgadir-Segal on the existence of a GIT problem which produces all po
ssible crepant partial resolutions (as orbifolds) of C^2^/G via variation
 of GIT quotient.
