lts\, and research agenda”. The seminar will beheld in the Ramsden Room

r series is supported by the Cambridge Journal of Economics and the Econom
ics and Policy Group at the Cambridge Judge Business School.\n\n*Talk Over
view:*\n\nEconomic differences across space are only partially be explaine
d by economic determinants. One reason might be the neglect of the psychol
ogical make-up of regions and its citizens. Recent research under the head
ing of ‘geographical psychology’ highlights the potential of a psychol
ogical approach to enhance our understanding of the uneven spatial distrib
ution of economic activity. To assess the value added of incorporating psy
chological factors\, we will use the individuals’ personality traits as
a prime example. It turns out that the regional variation in these traits
does not only help to explain regional growth differences\, but also regio
nal differences in political outcomes and in resilience to shocks. When di
scussing various promising research results\, the importance of a proper r
esearch design looms large with notably causality issues and underlying be
havioral mechanisms being real concerns. We will also address potential po
licy implications and draw up a research agenda.\n \n\n*Speaker Overview:
