DESCRIPTION:The world is a really crowded place these \ndays\; we are tryi
ng to balance the food\, \nfuel and fibre needs of a growing human \npopul
ation with the need to spare land for \nnatural wildlife that are facing a
n extinction \ncrisis. In this talk\, Anil will discuss the \nongoing work
on building comprehensive \nmaps of the world that measure important \nAn

 day\, 17 Oct. 6pm\nWhere:\nS2 Room\, Alison Richard \nBuilding\n7\, West R
oad\, Cambridge\nDon’t miss out on an inspiring evening!\nFree drink and
nibbles over an exciting conversation included!\naspects of nature by lev
erage satellite sensing and computation \npipelines. These models can meas
ure things like tropical forest carbon\, \nbut also be composed to build t
he first globally comparable measure \nof biodiversity (through a species
persistence approach)\, and also \nhelp measure the country-level impacts
of human food choices to \nnatural biodiversity. He will discuss some of t
he implications of this \nglobal monitoring approach: is this an opportuni
ty to equalise the data \nlandscape to the global south\, or will it just
 reinforce existing data \ninequality?
