DESCRIPTION:Despite the evidence of the impacts of climate change\, societ
y remains slow to address it. Can psychology help explain why? Can psychol
ogy help reveal messaging strategies that prompt climate action? In the fi
rst part of the talk\, I will discuss some of the psychological factors th
at impede action on climate change. I will also overview evidence of the (
in)effectiveness of current messaging strategies to influence climate chan
ge attitudes. In the next part of the talk\, I will describe a series of s
tudies testing an alternative approach to pro-environmental persuasion. La
stly\, the talk will end with a brief discussion of my pedagogical researc
h\, specifically on the teaching of statistics.
